Blank Slate

This morning I found the singular act of turning to a blank page in my journal to be satisfying. As I turned the page, a powerful yet unexpected moment happened as I watched the new page cover up the old page. Looking at my old thoughts being covered up did not by any means discredit them, but it was a reminder that I did not have to bring them to my new day. I get to choose to have new thoughts about the new day.

An internal cleansing emerges when we turn the page to a new day. We find ourselves taking a depth breath, relaxing, being still, and letting go. Letting go of all the circumstances in our life that we cannot control. Letting go of thoughts that hold us captive to our past and hinder our progress. Letting go of emotions that weigh us down and remind us who who we use to be instead of embracing who we are becoming.

Lamentations 3:22-23 “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning” (NLT).

I am thankful for the words in Lamentations; for the Lord knows the importance of turning the page to a new day. In the book of Lamentations, Jeremiah reminds us there is hope in the midst of affliction. He speaks of his personal trials, pain, and suffering in Lamentations 3:1 when he says, “I am the one who has seen the afflictions that come from the rod of the Lord’s anger,” but in spite of it all he declares the goodness of the Lord and his unfailing love; he counts it all as good. God works the same in our lives; even in the midst of difficult circumstances, the rising of the sun is a reminder to start fresh, take a deep breath, take it all in and embrace a new day.

REBORN. RENEWED. RECOLORED.
